With angular human figures in peaceful poses in solitude and using bold and unnatural colors, she builds the atmosphere of an uncanny world and invites the viewers to uncover her open-ended narratives.
One of Khor Art Initiative's selected artists in 2021, SHIVA NOROOZI (b. 1980, Iran) holds an MA in painting from Shahed University, Tehran, and is a member of the Society of Iranian Painters. For the past eight years, Shiva has been living and working as an artist on Kish Island in southern Iran. This quiet place with its blue sea and the vast sky has been very inspiring in her path of self-discovery. In her recent works, she is also inspired by the traditional Iranian visual world and literature and believes culture is an essential part of us. Shiva has always been particularly interested in depicting human beings, not so much in a representative or true-to-life manner but rather in a highly stylized and geometric way. "The main purpose is to depict what is beyond appearance", says the artist. With her angular human figures that are painted in bold and unconventional colors and imagined in peaceful poses in solitude, she builds the atmosphere of an uncanny world and invites viewers to uncover her open-ended narratives. Shiva has been represented by SARAI Gallery at major art fairs, most notably with a solo presentation at UNTITLED ART MIAMI BEACH 2022.
