Shila Jalil Piran (b. 1991, Iran) holds a master's degree in painting. She has participated in several group exhibitions and was awarded in several national festivals and competitions. With a mind full of images of Iranian miniatures, Piran speaks of society, politics, religion, and homeland. In the "Dread Place" series, the artist tries to present a contemporary visual interpretation of the Iranian painting traditions. The precision in execution and the amount of detail on the crane, walls, fences, watchtowers, and plants makes it seem like they were drawn by a miniature artist. However, the staging, the atmosphere, and most importantly, the break from literature and the absence of a narrative, distinguishes Piran's paintings from traditional miniatures. Titles are an integral part of artworks and a clue for deciphering them. By assigning a key role to the titles of the artworks, Piran's work blurs the lines between conventional and conceptual art.
