Azadeh Sefidkaran (b. 1980, Iran) has a BA in graphic design and an MA in art research and has been teaching art since 2006. In the "Silent Observers" series, Sefidkaran focused on the trend of taking selfies and sharing them on social media among the younger generation. In these paintings, schoolgirls are depicted visiting Iranian historical monuments, although they are shown to be busier with themselves and less interested in where they are. It is as if the historical heritage left by our ancestors is no longer a point of national pride or cultural identity for this young generation, but rather reduced to a decorative function such as the background of their photos.
Azadeh Sefidkaran was shortlisted both at Khor Art Initiative 2020 and 2021.
