Fatemeh Tarrah

Fatemeh Tarrah (b. 1999, Iran) got her bachelor's degree in painting from Tehran University of Art. Her works are the result of her strolls around the older neighborhoods in the city of Tehran and her fascination with the architecture of the 60s and 70s. The artist imagines the interior or exterior of old buildings through a nostalgic lens. Despite the contrast between the lights and shadows, the neutral color palette creates a depressing atmosphere in these works. The occasional presence of the residents of the houses doesn't improve the melancholic state of the scene either. Buildings that were once home to the upper classes and a symbol of modernism, must now either wait for the bitter end or endure a building use change.

Fatemeh Tarrah was shortlisted both at Khor Art Initiative 2020 and 2021.
