Maryam Yahaghi

Maryam Yahaghi (1979, Iran) has a master's degree in painting from the University of Tehran. In addition to painting, she has created conceptual art as well. Yahaghi's works have appeared in several exhibitions, especially in the screen section of Saatchi Gallery. In the "Memento" series, the artist uses the concept of preservation of historical and cultural values of societies or their identity through stamps to create her works. Stamps are memorabilia reminiscent of a nation's valuable assets and Yahaghi uses them to remind us of the importance of preserving endangered species in Iran. The use of needlework on fabric in these works for visualizing limbs and muscles makes it seem like we are seeing skinned animals; Animals with nearly no hope of survival due to our violent behavior.
