It appears that the Persian word “Dāvar” (referee) is a modification of “Dādvar”: judge. Therefore, the presence of a referee means the presence of law; the presence of warnings, fouls and penalties. It is not unlike the presence of God; among 'the sons of God’. Would one believe that a game with such degree of violence has a referee? Yet it does! Would one believe our world of such insanity, violence, pillage and bloodshed has a God? It apparently does! An arbiter that stands behind a line, staring at us.
