No one has ever risen to take their own life as gruesomely as I settled down to live it.
- Ahmad Shamlou
Blackness is a mixture of all the colors; this is particularly true for these works which are created over several layers; the colors have come layer upon layer, meeting completion in darkness and the color black. Blackness is an amalgamation of all colors just as rage that is an amalgamation of all emotions; fear, hatred, greed, … thus the color black can reflect the depth of fury and its true sense.
Furthermore, darkness of the space, the crouched figure, and the exhausted expression on the face of the boxer are in such a way that the viewer cannot tell whether they are looking at a scene before or after the combat, and therefore, our minds are led to perceive the beginning and the end as equals, hence the futility of the combat; a great despair out of having fought for nothing; nothingness.
